There is a growing tendency to admit candidates to university degree programs through entrance tests which is leading to a situation in which every aspirant for higher education has to appear at a large number of admission tests during a short period. To relieve this burden on the applicants, it is very necessary that all the institution offering MCA degree programs in a given state must organize a common entrance test and the merit list based on such a test must be utilized for selecting candidates for admission to MCA programs by the respective institutions.
Such a procedure is in vogue in vast majority of states for purpose of admission to BE/ B Tech degree programs.
In the county, there are many institutes that offer LE- MCA (2 years) Course after BCA.
If such a candidate is admitted based on his merit at the entrance test, it is only rational to exempt him from the courses of the first two semesters and admit him directly to the third semester (second year) of the program. Such a policy will be consistent with the present day thinking on multipoint- entry to programs of higher education.
Because of the heterogeneous composition of the students admitted, planning the course structure for MCA degree programs is highly, MCA degree program must also have some core courses and some elective courses.
The elective components of the curriculum for a program like MCA will have to be relatively high.
The core courses are intended to provide a sound foundation in the theory and abstraction mechanism of the discipline which is essential to build up the capabilities in the student to undertake self- study throughout his professional life to keep abreast with new development.
As such, core courses will from the compulsory component of the curriculum.
