The melting pot of America has spilled over into the big screen.
The new Disney movie, The Princess and the Frog will star an African-American character as the princess. This new addition is expected to make serious waves in the box office and with kids.
Already, collectors are snatching up its doll, the Just One Kiss Princess Tiana Doll.
There is good reason too as this marks a historic occasion and am happy to see it finally come.
Many parents of color should also be happy to see this change as we are starting see more characters of color appear in movies and shows. Another example is the popular children's show, Dora The Explorer. In this one, Dora is of Hispanic descent and teaches kids all types of wonderful things.
Odds are good that if you have kids you already know about her. Her products have been a big hit and she is now even expanding into a teen version.
However, enough about Dora.
Princess Tiana could be a character with her own share of sales potential as her new Disney Movie comes out a few weeks before Christmas.
Odds are very good this will make it the most watched children's movie during the holiday season and make demand for her doll very high. The only problem is that many parents will be scrambling trying to pick up this doll in time for Christmas.
The smarter solution is to order earlier to ensure your kids don't miss out on getting this historic doll.
However, the main point to takeaway is that Disney® has taken an important step to appeal to the ever changing fabric of America. This is a good chance that will most likely be met with future additional changes as our country continues to evolve.
I like many am eagerly awaiting these changes.
